The inspiring woman before you is a dedicated mother as well as a driven runner. Not only has she partaken in Death Race Canada 2016 (and killed it in Leg 1 in exactly 2 hours) but has also been a Beach Body coach for 2 years. Take a few minutes to read the interview below as she opens up about her true love for Fitness!
LADYSTYLES: How long have you been running and when did you start?
AW: I began running 8 years ago. I started when I was 18 and haven’t stopped.
LADYSTYLES: What was the main reason you started to run?
AW: The main reason I started running was to help me lose weight. I had just graduated from high school and was attending my cousin’s wedding in Vancouver. Over the weekend, I was so miserable and depressed about my weight and I decided that I was going to make a change. It was at this point that I started running. It was in the dead of winter but I bundled up every day, it started out as a run/walk but I kept pushing and eventually was able to run the whole time.
LADYSTYLES: How has running changed your life?
AW: It has transformed my life! After 6 months of running I lost 15 pounds and I felt amazing. Not only was my health better but so was my mental state. No longer was I struggling with depression and I was excited to wake up everyday and exercise! It brought out a passion in me and I haven’t looked back.
LADYSTYLES: How often do you run? What is your favorite thing about it?
AW: I run 3-4 times a week. I used to run every day, but since becoming a mom I also discovered a love for Beach Body’s workouts at home. My favorite thing about running is the energy it gives me!
LADYSTYLES: What inspires you and keeps you on track in your active lifestyle?
AW: I would say my daughter keeps me inspired and on track. I always want to be a healthy and fit mom and want to be an example. Knowing I have someone watching me everyday gives me that extra motivation.
LADYSTYLES: Are there other healthy activities like running that you participate in?
AW: I am a fitness addict and love so many forms of exercise but in the last two years I have been using a variety of Beach Body programs. I really love HIT style workouts, as well as using light weights. Spin classes I also really enjoy. I try to switch up my exercise routine every month.
LADYSTYLES: Do you have a word of encouragement or advice you would like to share with people striving for a more active lifestyle?
AW: Yes! It doesn’t matter what fitness level you are at, if you remain consistent and take it one day at a time, you WILL see results. If you stick with exercising, you will develop a love for it. Take it from me, who used to despise gym class .
LADYSTYLES: What do you consider the number one benefit of running?
AW: It has given me such confidence, drive, and happiness. I have had such success from running which has given me the confidence I lacked. Setting new goals for running has given me a drive I never knew I had. Not to mention just the pure happiness running brings to my life!
