When the Karcha’s booked a family trip to Big Sky, Montana last winter, I knew it was going to be a good one. What genuinely surprised me was just how many times my jaw dropped during our visit in BIG SKY, Montana! In my humble opinion, I think it is one of the most beautiful places in the world! So, if you are curious, settle in for a recap of our time from where we stayed to the activities we chose, etc.

How to get THERE

We chose to drive to Big Sky, Montana and it took us just shy of 13 hours. We broke the trip up each way and stayed in Swift Current with Ben’s brother on the way through and in Great Falls on the way home. I am definitely glad we did because as far as road trips go, there isn’t much to see until you reach Bozeman (which is just an hour out of Big Sky). So, if you aren’t the road trip type, I would definitely recommend flying into Bozeman and then renting a car from there. Bozeman is a beautiful little city that I wish we could have spent more time in, touring, shopping, etc. Also, don’t sweat the one hour drive to Big Sky because it will be one of the most beautiful drives you have ever experienced! I promise!

Where to STAY

Do you see my father-in-law ♥

Since there were 8 adults and 2 kids, we rented an airbnb (condo) at Spanish Peaks Resort right in Big Sky, Montana. I was sooo impressed. It had the most beautiful view, a private hot tub and more than enough room for all of us. In fact, we could have fit more if we had needed! We had personal rooms, the kitchen was spacious with a table that seated everyone and the living room had a roomy sectional that was perfect for relaxing, etc. We watched Hitch one night as a family and we couldn’t believe how much space there was for everyone. I also loved staying at this particular airbnb because we could bbq and hot tub every night. I would totally stay there again in the future if we ever came back to Big Sky, Montana!

What to DO

Oh boy, the FUN to be had in Big Sky. I am not the most adventurous type but it didn’t even matter, I had an absolute blast! Our first morning we hiked the Ousel Fall’s trail which is a free activity and a MUST DO! It is an easy hike with breathtaking views.

I was peer pressured into white water rafting but I am so glad I agreed to go. Honestly, the worst part is making yourself get on the raft. Once I was on, I wasn’t scared at all. We had an amazing guide and I was very impressed with the instruction and gear we were given. I was made to feel very safe and prepared which is kind of important to me, lol. White water rafting is a really neat experience although Benjamin and I did agree that it didn’t give us an adrenaline rush like rides at Disney, haha 😉 But still totally fun, especially when you can do it with loved ones!

What to PACK

Okay, onto the best topic -in my opinion. What to wear. Shopping, packing and wearing cute clothes is one of the best parts of a trip, don’t you think?

I knew we would be hiking when we were in Big Sky, Montana, so I made sure to pack athletic wear. Since it was a summer trip, I packed an athletic short and two athletic tank tops as well as a good sports bra. Everything is linked below. I also made sure I had a good pair of running shoes. Make sure you don’t forget sunglasses and you may want a back-pack for a long hike! For our evenings out, I packed a little white dress (pictured above, linked below). I wore it with my jean jacket when the sun went down and some strappy flat sandals. I always make sure my shoes are walking appropriate so I can keep up with everyone, hehe.

Since we did spend a lot of time on the road, I wore this adorable striped romper and white sneakers, as well as cute overalls, tube top and a big comfy cardigan to wrap up in if I was cold (pictured below). For my day time looks, I kept it simple but stylish in my favorite denim shorts and tube tops!

I hope you enjoyed this peek into our time in Montana. It was truly such a great trip! One that I hope YOU can take in the future, xoxo.
